Your whole optometry practice, always at hand

Refracta is software for documenting eye examinations. It works offline, patient data never leaves your device, and you shape it around the tests you actually perform.

One-time purchase, lifetime licence. The trial is the same program, limited in time.

Available for Windows, macOS, Android, iPhone and iPad.

Your examination, your way

An examination laid out the way you work

Every optometrist works a little differently. In Refracta you decide which parts of the examination you see, in what order, and what goes on the printout.

40+optometric tests and measurements to choose from
Yourorder of examination steps and modules within each step
5examination profiles, e.g. “Full exam”, “Quick check”, “Children”
  • Over 40 tests and measurements — from refraction and retinoscopy, through binocular vision and accommodation, to slit lamp and contact lenses
  • Your own order of examination steps and of the modules within each step
  • Turn steps, modules and even individual fields on or off
  • Separate print settings — a step, module or field can be visible in the program but left out of the report
  • Up to 5 examination profiles — chosen in step 1 and saved with the examination
  • Settings per user — every optometrist in the practice has their own layout, look and options
  • Dark mode, OD/OS or R/L eye labels, “?” hints on modules, optional spherical equivalent display
  • Reference values with cited sources, for your own interpretation — can be switched on or off (off by default)
Features

Everything a practice needs

Eye examination records

Refraction, visual acuity, history and findings — organised in one place, ready to print and archive.

Handwriting on screen

On tablets and phones you write values and text with a finger or stylus (Apple Pencil on iPad). Recognition happens on the device.

Patient records

Visit history, previous prescriptions and notes at hand. Fast patient search, even across tens of thousands of examinations.

Version history

Correcting an entry creates a new version and the original is kept. Every change has an author and a timestamp — the audit trail medical records require.

Access log

The program records who opened, corrected or printed a patient's records, and when.

Slit-lamp photos

Attach photos to the examination. They are stored in the encrypted database, together with the records.

Consents signed on screen

Data-processing (GDPR) consent and contact consent — the patient signs directly on the screen.

Report and prescription as PDF

Examination report and spectacle prescription — printed, or as a PDF for the patient.

Adapts to your examinations

Order of steps and modules, fields on or off, separate print settings and up to 5 examination profiles.

Data security

Built for medical data

Data stays with you

The program runs locally. Patient records are never sent to the cloud or to us — which makes GDPR compliance much simpler.

Independent of the internet

A broken connection won't stop your practice. Records and examinations are always available, right on your device.

Health data, taken seriously

An eye examination record is health data — a special category under the GDPR. Refracta keeps it encrypted, on your device, with a version history and an access log.

Refracta is not a medical device — it is a record-keeping tool. It stores, organises, calculates and displays data; the clinical assessment is always made by the eye care professional.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

It is the same program, limited in time — you can use every feature for 15 hours of work. There is no separate “trial” and “full” version: you download one installer, and after purchase you enter your licence key in the program you already have.

Yes, every purchase comes with a VAT invoice issued to your company. The price is €249 excluding VAT.

Businesses from other EU countries with a valid VAT number, and businesses outside the EU, are invoiced without VAT — the reverse-charge mechanism applies. Businesses registered in Poland pay 23% VAT.

No. Refracta is sold only to businesses: practices, optical stores, companies and sole traders. At checkout you enter your company's name and VAT number, and the invoice is issued to the company.

Don't have a VAT number yet? Write to us at contact@refracta.eu.

[TO CONFIRM] The program interface is available in English, German and Polish. More languages will follow.

Yes. What optometrists and opticians may do differs between countries. In Refracta you turn off any test or module that is outside your scope of practice — it disappears from the examination and from the printout. The program documents what you do; the clinical assessment is always entered by you.

Windows: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), 4 GB RAM, about 500 MB of disk space.

macOS: macOS 12 (Monterey) or later on Apple Silicon (M1–M4), 4 GB RAM, about 500 MB of disk space.

Android: Android 8.0 or later.

iPhone and iPad: iOS / iPadOS 15.5 or later, from the App Store.

The licence never expires and includes updates with bug fixes and minor improvements within the version. Major new releases may fall outside this licence — we will let you know well in advance.

After payment your key is sent to your e-mail address. The key is tied to that address — you enter the e-mail and key in the program to unlock it. Verification works offline. The same key works on all platforms.

The e-mail arrives within a few minutes. If you can't see it, check your Spam / Promotions folder or write to contact@refracta.eu.

Yes. Backups and exports use one encrypted format shared by all platforms. Data never passes through any server — you move the file yourself, in any way you choose.

Create a backup in the program — you get an encrypted file that you should regularly store outside the device (e.g. on an external drive). After a failure, install the program on a new device, enter your licence key and restore the backup.

Your data is only on your device, so regular backups are your responsibility — we have no access to your database and cannot restore it.

Yes. The program has user accounts, so several people can work on the same device, each with their own account. Every entry has an author and timestamp, and the access log shows who opened, corrected or printed records.

No. Refracta is not a medical device — it is a record-keeping tool. It stores, organises, calculates (e.g. spherical equivalent) and displays data entered by the optometrist. It does not assess examination results — the clinical assessment is always made by the optometrist.
